CAE Spring 2014

CAE Spring 2014

I. CALL TO ORDER
The evening session was called to order by President Robert Balla at 6:20PM and was closed at 8:45PM.
Dr. Michelle Hack, Chief Resident at UCONN introduced all of the UCONN residents.

II. READING OF THE MINUTES
Dr. Cabral Burke presented the minutes from the Fall 2013 meeting which can be found on the CAE website. Motion to accept minutes accepted.

III. REPORT OF SECRETARY
The following was covered at the Spring 2014 meeting:

  1. A minor dues increase may be needed. Our balance as of April 1st, 2014 was $6885.38.
  2. Root Canal Awareness week was March 30th through April 5th. The AAE offers free resources and for more information to contact the AAE website at www.aae.org/rcaw or campaign @ aae.org
  3. April 25th, 2014 from 8:30 - 1:00 was the 2014 LEVIN-MELNICK Lecture. James Gutmann lectures on non-surgical and surgical considerations in Endodontic-Orthodontic Relationships. There was a tribute to Dr.Adolph Bushell. Registration deadline was April 18th, 2014.
  4. Mission of Mercy 2014 was held April 25th & April 26th at the XL Center in Hartford. April 25th had 10 Endodontists, 2 residents and 10 assistant volunteers. April 26th had 12 Endodontists, 1 resident and 10 assistant volunteers.
  5. Dr. Balla also discussed Affiliate Dues Collection Agreement. We are signed up for the flat-rate option where the AAE charges us $2.00 per member, per invoice. We have 89 individuals invoiced by the AAE so our administrative fee was $178.00. This is nothing new and was the cheapest option.
  6. On March 12, 2014 the NJ Association of Endodontists presented the Marc Balson NJ Winter Symposium at the Marriott Hotel in Newark NJ.
    Presenters were:
  • Steven Baerg
  • Sashi Nallapati
  • Martin Trope
  • John Khademi
  • Gary Carr
  • Gelberto Debelian

The symposium was thought provoking, really well attended and simulcast beyond a 200 mile radius

  1. The AAE Annual Session was April 30th through May 3rd in Washington, D.C. President Gary Hartwell and General Chair Mark Schachman were at the helm. It was held at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center.
  2. District II information.
Dr. Craig Hirshberg reported the focus was on the NJ symposium, so there was nothing else new to report.
  3. Dr. Mark Desrosiers gave a CSDA update:
  • Medicaid is auditing providers, so be prepared to be audited if you haven't been. Legislators now feel like dental care is a right to all individuals and the CSD wants to try to prevent audits from pushing providers away.
  • There has been some friction between oral surgeons and traveling anesthesiologists. The law as it is written by the Department of Public Health requires that every office has to be certified. To become a certified office 2 patients have to be reviewed at that office. Every 5 years the office has to be recertified.
  • CSDA is celebrating 150 years of helping members. No dues increase at this time.
  • CT state employees are covered now under United Healthcare and it could change to Cigna. Numbers haven't been finalized but CSA members will be there to represent us.

IV. REPORT OF THE TREASURER
The account balance as of October 22, 2014 is $8150.87.

V. COMMITTEE REPORTS

1. CE COMMITTEE
On November 13, 2013 the CSDA/CAE Endo day at the Southington Aqua Turf was a great success, with great reviews from the dental community. Lectures were given by our own Drs. Bruce Cha, Seymour Melnick and Martin Ungar. A special thanks to Dr. Brian Amoroso and to all who helped for their superb organization to make this event such a success.

2. WEBSITE COMMITTEE
Dr. Jason Alliger brought up the question of raising public awareness to our existence which could increase patient flow, and how to best maximize access to our website.

Presently, when someone searches the web for root canal information our societies 'website wont' readily come up. Search Engine Optimization or S.E.O. was discussed by Dr. Amoroso as a means to draw people to our website.

The question was posed to SurfCT and they could do 1 of 2 things. They can do a one time organic S.E.O. on the present site for $1500.00 or for $800.00 they could do S.E.O. setup and $400./month for a 6 month contract which then can go month to month.

VI. UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Dr. Balla proposed our members go to our website and prepare to debate S.E.O. and possible small increase in dues at the next meeting. Do we spend money on the S.E.O. or do we spend money on CE courses and leave the site as is? Dr. Russo recommended sending out an email to all members so they can be prepared to discuss at the next meeting.

VII. NEW BUSINESS
Dr. Martin Trope was introduced and gave an informative lecture on "Evidence Based Endodontics in Private Practice."

VIII. NONE

VIIII. GOOD AND WELFARE
Dr. Balla thanked Dr. Trope and Richard Daniels from Brasseler for a great evening.

X. ADJOURNMENT
