  • Dr. Schleider reported that the AAE sent the CAE a letter stating that expanded functions for dental assistants in California were now allowed and included sizing, fitting and cementing endodontic master points and accessory points. The AAE was concerned that while these procedures were required to be performed under the supervision of a dentist, the procedures were potentially irreversible, and were better suited for a dentist operator. The AAE and the California Endodontic Association were working with the California Dental Board to try to remedy the situation. The AAE letter went on to state that this is a wake-up call to endodontists to be intimately involved in their local legislative process.
  • Dr.Schleider reported that the AAE had issued a formal media response to President Obama's derogatory mention of root canal treatment during his State of the Union address in January.
  • Dr. Mark Desrosiers detailed the status of HB 5447, CON and the need for state endodontists to take a proactive stand with their local legislators on the proposed legislation.
