Minutes from CAE Spring 2011 Meeting:

Spring Session at the Il Palio Restaurant in Shelton, Connecticut

The spring meeting of the Connecticut Association of Endodontists took place on the evening of April 27, 2011 at the Il Palio Restaurant in Shelton Connecticut. The meeting began at 6:28pm. The treasury report was given by Brian Amoroso who informed us of the then current balance of $8,731.42.

Mark Schleider then informed us that April was oral cancer awareness month and that the New York Academy of Sciences was hosting a meeting in that regard at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. The ADA annual meeting was to take place on October 10-13, 2011 in Las Vegas and the CSDA 146th Charter Oak annual meeting was to take place May 11-13, 2011 at Mohegan Sun Resort.

Bruce Cha reported on Mission of Mercy with a photoslide presentation. He informed us that the endodontists that were involved in Mission of Mercy were able to save approximately 100 teeth in 2 days and that the next Mission of Mercy event will be in Danbury on March 24-25, 2012. He asked us to consider donating equipment for the Mission of Mercy Program.

The Levin/Melnick lecture was to be held on Saturday May 7, 2011 with the Dr. Richard Walton as the speaker at the Avon Farms Hotel. The President of the CSDA John Davis gave an address on the success of the Mission of Mercy and discussed the scope of practice bill for dental hygienists and he urged maintaining contacts with our state legislators in that regard. He informed us that Marc Desrosiers is running for Vice President of the CSDA and that cone beam legislation got passed at 11:59 pm attached to a budget bill.

Dr. Sunshine gave us an update on the AAE annual session that was held in San Antonio on April 13-16, 2011 where Bill Johnson who is the chairman of the Dpmt of Endodontics at Univ. of Iowa was inducted as president and James Kulild who is the chair at the Univ. of Missouri in Kansas City is the president elect and Gary Hartwell from UMDNJ became the vice president. Next year the AAE annual session will be in Boston MA on April 18-21 at the Hynes Convention Center. Dr. Sunshine urged increased contribution to the AAE Foundation and suggested a $600/year amount for 5 years which is tax deductable. A motion was made and accepted to make a collective donation of $2000 to the AAE Foundation.

Dr. Schleider recommended that the CAE website be linked to an individual website designer. Two new members were inducted into the association who were 2010 graduates of the Endodontics Program at UConn. They are Mehran Abedi and Keivan Zoufan.

There were two changes made in the by-laws. The audits at the end of the fiscal year would be done by the immediate past president and that the website maintenance would be done by the secretary/treasurer.

The Marc Balson article was discussed which addressed the need for endodontists to actively participate in dental schools so that the specialty may not be allocated under the auspices of Prosthodontics or Operative Dentistry.

The election of Brian Amaroso as President and Moin Ahmed as Secretary/Treasurer was accepted.

Finally Martin Levin gave a lecture on the Self Adjusting File.
